Dan Bruce and Junior-2009 Colorado Extreme Cowboy Challenge

Yep, that's a picture of Dan Bruce up there! What does the late, great, amazing Dan have to do with my Christmas traditions? Well to find out, you have to get to the end of this blog post! Be patient and read on.
Even though we've always created lots of decorations and presents at Christmas and New Years, our Christmas tree ornaments are mostly a blend of ornaments that we've purchased here and there. They're a mix of finds from department stores and dollar stores and ornaments from local antique and vintage shops. The one exception to this is the tree topper. For some reason I always felt that this one needed to be different.
When Mike and I were newly weds with our first Christmas tree, I did make ornaments for our tree and the topper was a Polar Bear! Well heck- this is going to take a while to tell so if you really want to read the long version about my Critter Choir click here!
Moving on to present day, it was in 2014 that I first topped our tree with feathers!
Since that time, I've used the feathers, either by themselves or with a hat!
For this year's tree Mike donated his hat but the feathers have always been the same. They're feathers that Dan Bruce would pick up along his rides when he came out here to NY to help get colts started! These feathers are ones that I saved from his trip out here in April of 2014!
When I see the feathers, I think of Dan and I always smile. He had such a huge personality and zest for life, and these feathers on the top of my tree instantly remind me of his endless curiosity and enthusiasm. Let's face it, he took the time during a ride to get off and pick up the feathers!
That's the important part! Being so at ease and in the moment that you take the time to step off the snorty youngster Troxler's put you on to pick up a feather for your hat!
Merry Christmas to the Dan Bruce Family!
