Debuting at Central Park-Alicia, Kim and Slam
This year will be the Central Park debut for eleven-year old grey gelding Ggrand Slam+/. What remains to be seen is whether sixteen-year-old Alicia or her mother, Kim Bergeron, will be doing the honors as the amateur rider for the Hunter Pleasure pro/am class. The idea of competing at this show was Alicia’s! After watching the show last year, she asked her trainer if it would be possible for her to show Slam at the 2017 Open and he said yes! Unfortunately, a recent knee surg

Returning to Central Park-Brooke and Escalade
One of a handful of horses returning to the Arabian US Open this year for a THIRD time is Kimberly Butler and Jim Blevins handsome grey gelding, EQ Escalade! And while I've heard some very interesting stories of how horses joined their human partners, I think this one wins the prize! According to Kimberly, the story goes like this- “In 2012, we were at the Region 12 Championship show where I was showing my Western horse. Because horse showing is hurry up and wait at the best

Returning to Central Park-Lisa and Abby
The story of “How Lisa Met Abby” is a study in the idea that sometimes you just need to let the universe have its way with you. By that I mean that when Lisa met Abby, (more formally known as PA Appalonia Dancer) she wasn’t shopping for a horse at all. She was visiting Ryan Show horses to check out a stallion for her mare, Kyrie Elleison. But Abby just wouldn’t let Lisa pass her by. “Abby just kept talking to me as I walked through the barn and the fourth time, I finally aske

Debuting at Central Park-Jennifer and Patriot V
Another "first time combo" at the Arabian US Open this year is Patriot V++++// and Jennifer Henderson riding in the Hunter Pleasure Pro/Am class. The third part of that team will be Jennifer's mom, Lorie Henderson, making it very much a family affair! Patty-as he is sometimes called- came to be a part of Herd Henderson largely in part to Lorie’s life- long friendship with Sheila Varian. Lorie lived not far the Varian Ranch, first visited in the 1980’s and attended the Spring

Debuting at Central Park-Debbie and CP Neon Riot
CP Neon Riot (by the stallion Vegaz and out of the mare Ima Dancer Too) was bred by Cal Poly and purchased by Rob and Caralyn Bick when he was a 2 year old and in 2014 he was purchased by their clients, George and Debbie Attwod. Neo has always been a favorite in the training barn. His success started early, with a Top Ten in the English Pleasure Maturity in 2012. Since that time he's brought home National awards every year. He's headed to US Nationals in October to compete in

Debuting at Central Park-Melissa & Harry
Melissa Fry hasn’t owned Harry very long but he’s already wiggled his way into the center of the Fry Family! Melissa had a specific list when she went shopping for a horse. She wanted a show horse for herself, but also a horse that had very good ground manners and that her kids, Connor and McKenna could grow into. In Harry Trotter (sired by Afire Bey V and out of the mare LBC Nobelinda) it seems like she’s found the perfect horse! Melissa says “At the Buckeye Show this year,

Returning to Central Park-Joelle and Aces
Meet Holdin Aces, Joelle and Robert Wright’s handsome grey gelding. When I researched the list of performance horses entered at the 2017 Arabian US Open, there was one detail in particular that caught my attention- and that is Aces is the only performance entry shown by a breeder-owner-rider! Joelle snuggling with her Vegaz filly. I’ve met Joelle and seen her show Aces many times, but never really had a chance to get to know her. Writing this blog post provided the perfect op

Debuting at Central Park-Brooke and Mayhem
PA Mayhem (sired by Possesion PGA and out of the mare BP Meditation Bey) joined the Hines family fairly recently, in October of 2016! Debra Hines and her daughter, Brooke, had watched his career from the time he was a Junior Horse, as he won major awards at two US National Championship Shows, including a unanimous National Championship last year in the Hunter Pleasure Open. This year more than one generation of Hines ladies have been enjoying this happy chestnut gelding, as h

Returning to Central Park- Cathy and Sanction
If there’s such a thing as a “favorite to win” based on their record at the Arabian Open, it would have to be Sanction and Cathy Schaming Vecsey. And I would bet the riders who compete against them are some of this team’s biggest fans! Why? Because no horseman could help but aspire to have a sound and happy show horse at the age of 29! Yes, HL Sanction is 28 years old this year! Cathy and Sanction won the Native Costume class at the inaugural Arabian Open in 2015, and they w

Debuting at Central Park-Kelly and Buzzz
Buzzz, the dynamic chestnut gelding with the super cool name, is no stranger to top level competition and he seems to specialize in starting aspiring young riders on their way to the winners circle. This 15 year old son of Apollopalooza (and out of the mare Nitemotion) has carried multiple young riders to National ribbons in the English Pleasure 13 & Under division. In 2015 he even won a National Top Ten in English Pleasure with an Adult Amateur rider at US Nationals AND a To

Our Return to the Arabian US Open in Central Park
Mike and I are very happy that we will be returning to New York City to be part of the 2017 Arabian US Open show in Central Park! It seems like the perfect time to share our experiences from last year. Welcome to "the City" and the NYC traffic! Challenging to navigate with a car! Horse trailers? Wow! In 2016 it was especially congested because the United Nations General Assembly was meeting at same time! From the Essex Hotel, the Central Park entrance closest to Wollman Rink
