The Gauntlet-As told by Sharon
The best Christmas tradition in our family is our joy of "making"! Our earliest Christmas presents were made by our Mom and the days on our "Days to Christmas Calendar" was packed with things to do and make. Each day we couldn't wait to see what our activity would be. Setting up decorations around the house and the tree were of course majorly exciting, but there were baking and making days as well. Which pretty much explains our love of the holiday and why, most years, we co

Tales From Tulsa- Found at Hartmeyer
You can find Arabian horses from all over North America here in Tulsa at the 55th Arabian Nationals. But did you know you can shop for items from all over as well? And probably none have traveled farther than this little piece of equestrian sculpture. My post earlier in the week featured massive terracotta sculptures atop the Boston Avenue Methodist Church equestrian sculptures as architectural elements, but the focal point of this design is handcrafted from another very nat

Tales From Tulsa-Circuit Riders
Because I love horses, art, artists and history, discovering Robert Garrison’s Circuit Riders atop the Boston Avenue Methodist church in Tulsa was exhilarating! When I say “discover” it just means that while I’ve always craned my neck to check out this super cool piece of Art Deco architecture, I’m always on my way to the Tulsa Expo Center and have never had the opportunity to stop and really check out the building. Yesterday was the first morning that Patty Lirakos and I shi

The Equine Theme-2002 Canadian Stamp
This design is one of my favorite equine themed motifs. I would LOVE to have it as a giant print but that’s not likely to happen as this super cool, feisty pony is about 1 x 1.5 inches…it’s a stamp—the Canadian 2002 “Year of the Horse” edition. In China, the horse is a symbol of vitality, progress, and success. In Asian art, horses symbolize force and strength, and are portrayed as lively, energetic and powerful. Horses are usually in motion, whether travelling in a herd or p

Region 8 Championship Show 2021
It was really fun to have “Team Troxler” at the 2021 Region 8 Championship Show, especially because we got to be there for some really cool special events and we couldn’t resist putting together a little something to share with those that couldn’t be there. We had a great time catching up with our Colorado friends, the Gambel Oaks crew, Sally Randle, Sierra Vista, and of course all the hard working members of the Region 8 Show committee. But it was also great to see some new

Why I Bought a Chicken Mug
When you're surrounded by the relentlessly bleak landscape of a central New York winter you'll do just about anything for some warmth and color in your life. It's not just for warmer temperatures that those in New England flock south during the winter. Once the gorgeous fall colors are gone, the landscape becomes relentingly monotonous...white ground under the umbrella of a white sky. If you're lucky, new snowflakes might liven things up a bit. All of the above is just a long

America's Response Monument; The Horse Soldier
Today seemed like a great day to share a blog post from last year when Mike and I had the opportunity to visit New York City crossing off two “Bucket List Destinations” – both centered around equestrian history and art. High on our “Bucket List Destinations” was Liberty Park — home to a very special equestrian monument—the America’s Response Monument overlooking the National 9-11 Memorial. I become aware of this incredible statue last year while researching historical equestr

Highlander Part Two!
There was a big delay between my two posts about Highlander... Highlander Part One and now, Part Two! MK Highlander and Roberta Herring That wasn't due to lack of inspiration or motivation on my part. However, I frequently have wonderful visions of "stuff" I'd like to do, but unfortunately lack the skill set to execute! Fortunately, I'm married to Mike, who for over 30 years has magically taken my sketchy plans and turned them into something wonderful. This little video of Hi

How Lisa Lost Her Horse
Recently Facebook brought up a "memory" for me! A picture GJR Double O Seven and Lisa's daughter, not too long after Lisa bought "Bond"-for herself. I don't think it took very much time for Lisa to "lose" Bond, but if you gotta let them go, having them end up making this kind of match with your daugher is the best way to do it! The picture on the left is from this year at the East Coast Championship who where they were Champions in the Sport Horse Under Saddle Walk/Trot 10&U

A few Horses by Jean Dupas
Some artists define themselves as being an "equine artist". Others will simply have, at one point or another, created a piece that features horses. Such is the case of Jean Dupas! Dupas was a French artist who lived from 1882 to 1964. The only reason I became aware of Dupas at all, is because I LOVE to watch Antiques Road Show. I can't remember whether I saw this poster on the UK version or the US. What I do remember is that when this poster was displayed on the screen, I lov

Wilson and Peggy
First let me say that I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of people that have told me they are referring to my blogs for help with their at home training! Most of my posts are generated by what I happen to be working on, but I'd like to also share some of the questions I've received. Maybe there's something here that can help others. With her permission, I'm going to share Wilson and Peggy's story! I acquired Wilson in June of 2012 and sold him to Peggy in 2013. Acqu

Storms "Hat Trick"....3 Good Days in a Row!
Let me be clear. Even a bad day with Storm isn't "bad" like some! He's just been pretty good from the very start, and aside from the problems one would naturally expect from a nine year old that's just being introduced to having a real job, he's been super easy so far. That doesn't mean he's perfect! And the best thing is, Storm's no poker player. When he thinks life has become unfair, he just plain has a temper tantrum. Nothing personal, but he's going to "get pissy". So far

Moochie's Solo...and my first video editing project!
A rainy day, so perfect to learn a new skill...video editing. Mike has taught me just enough to be dangerous. While this isn't nearly the quality of a "Michael Troxler Multi Media" production...I shot it and edited 95% of it myself! When he got in from the barn today, poor guy had to immediately sit down and review my work, then explain some of the finer points of editing in Premier...like how to zoom in to the work area on my timeline for starters! Then I learned how to do "

Putting on a Bridle-Jet
This is simply a series of photos showing my hand and arm positions while putting a snaffle on a youngster. At this point in his training, Jett's worn a bit once or twice but could still be quite evasive! For a "first time" project, I would leave the halter on and just put the bridle on over. Note that with this training bridle set up, the cavesson (noseband) piece is separate from the bridle. I've put it on his face first. Once again, if this were his first time, I would jus

Second Installment of Chronicles of Z
Last Monday, I introduced Monica and Zenith! We delivered him to her scenic place in Deansboro on May 12th, and took some pictures and then headed home! May 12, 2012 Dear Mike and Kathy, My neighbor makes me crazy!! My new horse is settling in nicely, when what does my neighbor do? He decides, after 2 years of not touching them, to lunge one of his horses. And where does he decide to do it? On his field next to the pumpkin patch! I have never even been able to see his ho

Storm's day...Good, Naughty and Great!
Good, naughty and great all in one session? Welcome to horse training! If you think there aren't ever any days where they give you some "tude" then you're dreaming! Storm's rebellion for the day? I said "walk forward" (and this happened to be away from the gate) and he (for the first time) said "nope"! So he got a great big swat on his fanny. He's had that before and been a peach, but today, he got his panties in a wad and bucked and kicked out...then he got a REALLY big smac

Long Lining with Moochie
I've had some people asking for more shots of the long lining and I decided to use Moochie's workout today as an example. This is not Moochie's first long lining session! I've done him about a dozen times in the arena, but this is his 2nd or 3rd time in "the big outside". A little back ground on Moochie is in order. He had some training when I acquired him, but (when I rode him) I didn't feel like he really understood how to stop or steer. While he was comfortable carrying a

The Introduction to " The Chronicles of "Z"
The actual Chronicles of Z follow the story of me, Zenith and Monica after she took him home in May 2012. But before we get into the actual Chronicle, I guess it needs an introduction. I met my good friend, Monica Acee in early 2012. She was shopping for a horse to trail ride and had contacted Mike to see if he had anything suitable. While we didn't have anything "finished" we did have some that we thought could be excellent candidates, but they would definitely need more tra
